Since 1946, ACS has invested more than $5 billion in research grants to the best scientists across the country, leading to amazing breakthroughs. More than 50% of ACS-funded researchers are women. Not only is the Society the largest non-profit funder of cancer research outside the federal government, but ACS has also funded 49 researchers who went on to win Nobel Prizes. They were all men, which is great, but we hope that a female cancer researcher funded by ACS will one day receive this recognition. Most important is that we fuel the science to eradicate cancer! There are approximately 17 million cancer survivors in the US, but this year alone, 1.9 million more people will be diagnosed with cancer and there will be 608,570 cancer deaths in the US.
