Thundersnow In Owings Mills, Snow Totals For Reisterstown

Winter weather transformed the sights and sounds of Owings Mills and Reisterstown over the course of two days.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — One resident in Owings Mills captured thundersnow Wednesday as a line of snow squalls blew across the region. A snow squall is a burst of heavy snow and gusty winds that reduces visibility, according to the National Weather Service.

Owings Mills "picked up quick 1/2 inch" of snow Wednesday morning during the storm, according to Craig Allen. During the snow squalls, he captured thundersnow on video shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thundersnow is when a snowstorm is accompanied by lightning.

"That lighting strike knocked out my cable and power for a minute,"Allen tweeted. "This was intense. It got so dark street lights came on."

Wednesday's snow squalls delivered a fresh coating atop the snow that blanketed the area Tuesday afternoon.

  • 2.6 inches in Reisterstown, reported at 7 p.m. Tuesday
  • 2.6 inches in Glyndon, reported at 7:49 p.m. Tuesday
  • 2.5 inches in Glyndon, reported at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday
