Vehicle Thefts, Residential Burglaries, Smash and Grab: Area Crime Trends

Baltimore County Police share crime trends in the Owings Mills/Reisterstown area.

Motor vehicle thefts, residential burglaries and smash and grab robberies are trending in and around the Owings Mills/Reisterstown area of Baltimore County. 

Identification of a crime trend does not mean that the crimes necessarily are related or have been committed by the same suspect.

Crime trends as of Dec. 18, according to the Baltimore County Police Department:

  • Since Dec. 5, there have been five motor vehicle thefts from the West Edmondale community within the Woodlawn Precinct. In four of the five cases, vehicles were either left running or had keys in the ignitions. Cases occurred between 5 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on various days.
  • Since Dec. 2, there have been four residential burglaries in the Franklin Precinct. Three cases occurred on Mondays and one on Wednesday between 5 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. In two cases, a suspect knocked on doors and then opened front doors using a credit card or a card that looked like a credit card. In two cases, the front doors had scratches on the door handles and entry was gained with physical force. An iPod, a Samsung tablet and jewelry were taken from two homes.
  • Since Nov. 27, there have been three street robberies in Catonsville in the Wilkens Precinct. There has been no new activity since Dec. 7.
  • Since June 10, there have been 30 smash and grab burglaries in shopping centers and along Liberty Road, Security Boulevard, Lord Baltimore Drive, North Rolling Road corridor, Reisterstown Road and York Road corridors. Most cases occurred between 1 and 7 a.m. over weekends, Fridays to Mondays. The suspect used bricks or rocks to smash the door or window glass. Nebhash Inc., Alquds Market and Beauty 4 U were targeted twice. In four cases, the suspect was seen with a bag or a backpack to carry stolen property. Laptop computers, cash registers/drawers, money, cartons of cigarettes, a purse, a cell phone, hair grooming tools and liquor were taken.
This is preliminary information developed by detectives based on geographical location, similarities between crimes and suspect descriptions, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.
