Boys, Girls State Lacrosse Tournaments Begin Wednesday

Competition begins in the MPSSAA lacrosse tournaments Wednesday; Loch Raven and Overlea High schools are first round opponents in the boys' tourney.

Play begins in the MPSSAA state tournaments in boys' and girls' lacrosse and softball on Wednesday and two local schools are set to take each other on in the first round.

In Boys Class 2A/1A lacrosse the Overlea Falcons (No. 8) take on the Loch Raven Raiders (No. 9) at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Overlea. The winner of the matchup will take on first-seed New Town on Friday.

The Girls Class 2A/1A matchup is much the same, but because there are less teams in the tournament both Overlea (No. 5) and Loch Raven (No. 4) earned first-round byes. They play at Loch Raven on Friday afternoon.

While area schools are either underdogs or playing one another in the lacrosse tournament, local teams fared better in softball.

Parkville (No. 5) plays Towson (No. 12) at home at 4 p.m. Thursday in a Class 3A matchup; advancing in the tournament would pit the Knights against the winner of a contest between Hereford (No. 3) and Bel Air (No. 14).

Loch Raven (No. 6) takes on Lake Clifton (No. 3) on Friday after earning a first round bye and Overlea (No. 10) plays at Pikesville (No. 7) Thursday afternoon.

Editor's note: Softball games begin Thursday afternoon, not Wednesday afternoon as previously noted. Patch regrets the error.
