CIA presents Neil Beller local author of Missing Pine Park

Step back in time and enjoy as Mr. Beller presents a funny and fascinating look at growing up in Carney, Maryland in the 1960's and 1970's

A meeting of the Carney Improvement Association will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Carney Elementary School, 3131 E. Joppa Road Carney, MD 21234.

The guest speaker will be Neil R. Beller, Jr. who is a homegrown Carney-ite. Neil grew up on Uxbridge Road in the heart of Carney, MD.

At he intersection of Appleton and Uxbridge Roads, there is a small park called Missing Pine Park which is also the title of Neil Beller’s book, a comedy memoir about life in Carney MD in the 1960’s and 1970’s. These were simpler times when kids could run free in their neighborhoods and Moms told them to be home “when the street lights come on.”

In his Prologue Neil give the following description of Carney MD: It is buried in the quiet suburbs of Baltimore County, nestled somewhere between Parkville, Cub Hill and Perry Hall. Carney was named after the original landowners, but years later I find that I constantly have to explain to non-residents that Carney was not a training ground for learning how to bark for the bearded lady at the carnival. This is still an accurate description except now Carney is no longer as quiet a suburb!

Mark your calendar and plan to attend this very special event.
