The Future Is Now for Hybrid Vehicle Consumers at Oak Crest
New electric car charging station installed this summer at Erickson Living retirement community

PARKVILLE, MD—In its nearly twenty-year history, being a good steward of the environment has been a priority at Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community.
From construction of a green roof for the continuing care neighborhood to earning BayWise and National Wildlife Habitat certifications, the commitment has been a partnership between management and residents.
So when Daniel Kott moved to the 87-acre community with his 2012 Toyota Hybrid Prius last year, he became the first resident to inquire about an electric car charging station.
His request became a reality as the campus installed its first station in front of the Town Center clubhouse this summer.
Mr. Kott, a retired computer programmer employed by the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Towson University, raves about the benefits of a hybrid vehicle.
“Before I moved to Oak Crest, I drove about 10,000 miles per year,” stated Mr. Kott. “When I got home, I would plug the car in and it was fully charged. I drive less now, mainly for errands and shopping. It’s very environmentally friendly and to me that’s worth it.” He noted that the car gets nearly 100 miles per gallon.
It’s a trend worth watching. In 2013, Experian, a global information services company, found that Baby Boomers purchased the highest percentage of hybrid vehicles than other generational groups.
“Being on the cutting edge of technology is important in serving our current residents and attracting new customers to our campus,” stated Gary Hibbs, Executive Director of Oak Crest.
