Pine Grove Middle Notches Quiz Bowl Win Over Sparrows Point

Pine Grove Middle School's Quiz Bowl team came away with a victory recently when it faced its Sparrows Point Middle School counterpart in the academic competition.

Pine Grove defeated Sparrows Point, 245-125, according to Pine Grove English teacher and Good News Ambassador Dorienne Plait.

Team coach Debra Watson is "very pleased with how the students competed," according to a statement from Plait.

In a competition similar to "It's Academic" or "Jeopardy," Quiz Bowl challenges middle school students with questions about current and historical events, according to Plait.

Students begin practicing in October and compete in monthly matches from November through March, when playoffs begin, according to Plait.

Pine Grove's team includes Caleb Lacey, Francis Maglaqui, Will Prestwich, Eunice Hong, Dale M., Bill Zhao, Angelica Putinski and Jackey Weng.

"They all have very good sportsmanship and congratulate each other at the end of every game," Plait said in an email to Parkville Patch.  "We are so very proud that they represent some of the best of Pine Grove!"
