Pop-Up Arts & Crafts Shop Planned For Concert Series

The Parkville Main Street Committee is looking for artists and crafters for the weekly endeavor set to run during the spring concert series.

While Parkvillians are rocking out to the Parkville-Carney Business Association's Spring Concert series at the Lavender Avenue parking lot, just across Harford Road a group of artists and craftsmen will be displaying their wares in a makeshift shop.

The pop-up store, conceived by Parkville's Main Street Committee, will run on Friday nights from 5-8 p.m. May 10-June 28 at the Harford Road storefront that used to house Atlantic Deli, next to Jerry D's Restaurant, according to the main street committee's Ruth Baisden.

"People have said for years they’d like to see an art gallery, they like what Hamilton is doing with having artists show their goods," Baisden said. "We can find out ... 'is there really a desire for this?' 'Can Parkville support a pop-up store?'"

Baisden said the store is, of course, looking for artists and craftsmen who want to display and sell their work. Anything from painting to handmade jewelry would be welcome, she said.

Artists who want to participate will be given a 6-by-4-foot space in exchange for a $5 donation to the Main Street Committee per event they want to participate in, Baisden said.

There will be a total of eight pop-up stores this spring and summer.

In addition, because the pop-up store will be staged in a vacant storefront "and not a plush gallery," Baisden said the group needed volunteers to assist with cleaning the space on May 4 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
