Rosedale Baptist Students, Oak Crest Residents Partner on Gardening Project
Spring is finally here! Local residents and students begin seasonal planting by prepping garden areas at Oak Crest.
Parkville, MD—After a long, unseasonably cold winter in Baltimore, the time for spring planting has finally begun.
With a brilliant blue sky as a backdrop, students from Rosedale Baptist School visited residents of Oak Crest retirement community for an intergenerational spring garden prep project on April 16.
The 10th grade biology class of Mr. David Myers provided valuable assistance to residents whose 10’ x 10’ garden areas required weeding, turning over and fresh topsoil for planting. In turn, the resident-gardeners shared lifelong “green thumb” tips on growing colorful flowers and delicious vegetables with the students.
Ann Marie Riehl is the Volunteer Program Coordinator at Oak Crest. “The students from Rosedale Baptist School were terrific,” said Mrs. Riehl. “Our residents enjoyed sharing their love of gardening with these young adults, and we thank Mr. Myers for his support in making this a wonderful intergenerational event at our campus.”
David Ballman, a student at Rosedale Baptist School who is also employed at Oak Crest’s Fireside Restaurant, suggested that his class volunteer at the retirement community.
