60 MPH Wind: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For 2 Counties

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Baltimore and Harford counties. It is in effect until 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18. A special marine warning was also issued.

Radar showed a severe thunderstorm over Kingsville, or 9 miles north of Middle River, before 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The storm may bring 60 mph wind gusts and hail the size of quarters, weather officials said. It was moving southeast at 15 mph. Radar also indicated a severe thunderstorm near Jarrettsville, or 7 miles northeast of Cockeysville, before 10:30 p.m.

A special marine warning is in effect until midnight. Officials said they issued the warning after a severe thunderstorm was detected near the Gunpowder River at 10:23 p.m. Due to wind gusts greater than 50 knots and large hail, boaters may be thrown overboard, their vessels may capsize and boats could be damaged, officials said.

These locations may be impacted, according to the warning: Middle River, Cockeysville, Dundalk, Bel Air South, Essex, Parkville, Bel Air North, Carney, Perry Hall, Rosedale, Rossville,
Timonium, White Marsh, Fallston, Bowleys Quarters, Riverside, Hampton, Kingsville, Pleasant Hills and Jarrettsville.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people in these areas should go to the lowest floor of a building, in an interior room.

Remain inside to stay safe from wind and lightning. Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and objects that have not been secured may go flying.
