You may wonder, What is the connection between Adam and Eve, Christmas and Easter? Let’s start out with Christmas. The month of December is noted for some very special things. It comes with the anticipation of a very special day, Christmas. The day itself brings much enjoyment as families and friends come together.
There is something in the air during the month of December. Most people live busy lives. But even in the busiest month of the year, they still manage to find time to shop for the special people in their lives. Then we take the time to wrap each gift and have it ready to go for our Christmas get-togethers. Some people may not even enjoy shopping, but they still make the time to go out and purchase gifts.
Another thing that is evident during this month is that people seem to be much nicer to each other. Whether its when we are driving on the road, shopping in the stores, it seems like everyone acknowledges each other. But during the other months of the year we tend to look the other way.

However we may celebrate this season there is something that is very significant about it. Christmas, is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus. In many cases the fun, shopping, gatherings, events, and more can become distractions and overshadow the main event.
We might wonder, Why did Jesus come anyway? What is the reason that He came to earth? Many people have ideas and some may not know at all. But there was a reason He came and this reason is critical for you and I and our eternity.

So where does Adam and Eve come into this? In Genesis we find the story of Adam and Eve, and here’s the quick version. Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden. God created it as a beautiful place for them to live and have a perfect relationship with Him. God gave Adam and Eve one major requirement, do not eat from the fruit of one specific tree. Although Adam and Eve were in perfect relationship with Him, He wanted to give them the opportunity to choose Him freely. But, long story short Adam and Eve chose to disobey His one requirement and eat from this forbidden tree.
God’s desire for Adam and Eve and for each person who has ever lived is to have that personal relationship with Him. But, He didn’t create us as machines or robots but people that can make their own decisions. He wants it to come from our heart. We can make the choice to love God or not. We can choose to obey Him or not. He gave us free will, so it is up to each and everyone of us to make our own choices.
So what happened after Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree? That perfect relationship between them and God was broken.Their disobedience caused sin to enter the world, and then all of their decedents which includes the entire worlds population for all time are now born into sin. This created a major and eternal problem for each and everyone of us. Sin separates us from God. Since that perfect relationship was broken, there was nothing that Adam and Eve could do, or that we can do on our own to repair it on our own. Being a nice person is not good enough. Going to church is not good enough. Helping people in need is not good enough. There is nothing we can do on our own to repair that relationship that was broken at the beginning of time in the Garden of Eden.
Because of God’s love for us, He made a way for this relationship to be restored. He came down to earth, and chose to sacrifice His life for ours. This is what we celebrate at Easter or Resurrection Sunday, which I believe is the greatest season of all. This is the day that we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. Jesus is God in human form. But to get a complete understanding of this, we need to understand that before there was a resurrection there was a death. This death was God accepting the pure and holy shed blood of Jesus, as a sacrifice. Jesus paid the price for you and I to mend the relationship that Adam and Eve broke thousands of years ago. But again, God made this something that we can choose to accept or not.
Again God allows us to have the gift of free will to make the decision to accept this gift or not. Although the death and resurrection was God’s idea, He gives us the opportunity to make our own decisions. If we do not accept Him, it is an automatic that we do not have that relationship.
So now going back to Christmas, we celebrate an event that’s extremely special. The birth of the One who made the way for us to have a relationship with God. That which God had created and desired for us in the first place. This is why another name for Jesus is Savior. This is the reason that during this season it radiates joy, fun, happiness, love and so much more.
So this is the connection with Adam and Eve, Christmas and Easter. And there is a decision we need to make.
Have we accepted Christ as our Savior, the real meaning for Christmas or have we been side tracked with the fun and gifts that come with the season? The choice is for each and everyone of us to make. It is what determines our eternal destination, with or without God and it brings us the joy of knowing Him while we are here on earth.
