Outages Continue In Perry Hall After Storm

Emergency personnel are responding to downed trees and power outages in Perry Hall after Wednesday's storm blew through the region.

PERRY HALL, MD — Storm cleanup is ongoing in White Marsh and Perry Hall Wednesday after a severe thunderstorm blew through the region. Several trees fell on and through houses in the area, according to the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company. It handled a lightning strike, roof blown off a structure, multiple trees on and through houses, a fire alarm and wires as well as transformers arcing. Its crews and those in eastern Baltimore County handled at least 19 calls between 6 and 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, officials said.

After 9 a.m. on Thursday, BGE was reporting more than 1,500 customers in Baltimore County remained without power.

More than 7,600 BGE customers in the county had their power restored since the storm event began, according to the utility company, which said across all of its service areas, it has restored power to more than 25,000 customers.

The Baltimore County Fire Department asked people not to attempt to drive around or over wires or tree branches. People should consider all wires that are down as live wires, and avoid them.

Silver Spring Road remained closed on Thursday, May 30, due to storm damage.

These roads were closed or partly closed due to the storm Wednesday night, the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company, which stated that Thursday morning, all appeared to be open:

  • Bird River Grove Road
  • Philadelphia Road between MD 43 and Cowenton Road
  • Philadelphia Road at Joppa Road
  • Red Lion Road near Stevens Road
  • Honeygo Boulevard and Silver Spring Road

On Wednesday evening, state transportation officials reported US 40 west was closed at Ebenezer Road due to debris/weather, and so was MD 7 between Joppa and Ebenezer roads.

There were more than 9,200 BGE customers in Baltimore County experiencing power outages as of 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, according to the utility company.

While some people said they experienced what they thought was a tornado, The Baltimore Sun reported that meteorologists attributed the cause to a potential microburst, which is an intense column of sinking air that can have up to 150 mph winds.
