Flash Flood Watch In Maryland: More Storms Possible This Weekend

A flash flood watch is in effect Thursday for most of Maryland as storms saturate the region.

A flash flood watch is in effect for much of Maryland on Thursday as thunderstorms move through the region.

The flash flood watch is in effect from 7 a.m. to midnight and means conditions may lead to flash flooding, or a rapid rise in water level. Authorities ask people to be extra careful driving at night.

Slow-moving thunderstorms may bring heavy rain to the region Thursday, officials say, which could prompt flash flooding around roads and buildings. Landslides and washouts are possible.

"It wouldn't take much to cause flooding, given heavy rainfall across much of the area both yesterday and again this morning," the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion.

Thursday's flash flood watch comes on the heels of flash flooding Wednesday night that led to water rescues in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County.

White Marsh reported 2.2 inches of rain Wednesday morning, while Cecil County saw 1.71 inches of rain in Colora on Wednesday night, based on unofficial National Weather Service data.

More thunderstorms and flooding are possible this weekend, the National Weather Service reported.
