Flood Warning Issued For Two Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning Tuesday for Harford and Baltimore counties.

BALTIMORE, MD — Eastern Baltimore County was under a flash flood warning Tuesday evening, as high water resulted in multiple road closures and water rescues. Authorities said a few homes in Middle River flooded as well.

A flood warning remains in effect for Harford and Baltimore counties until 10:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service issues a flood warning when flooding is imminent or occurring. Drivers should turn around if they come across flooded roads, and pedestrians should not walk through flood waters.

Weather officials said radar showed thunderstorms with heavy rain that could cause flooding late Tuesday afternoon. Up to 2 inches of rain had already fallen by 4:40 p.m., and up to 3 inches of rain had fallen by 5:22 p.m. with another inch of rain expected, authorities advised.

During the evening rush hour, eastern Baltimore County was under a flash flood warning.

After 7:30 p.m., the National Weather Service reported there were 10 to 12 roads closed because of high water, and MD 7/Philadelphia Road and US 40/Pulaski Highway were among them.

  • MD 7/Philadelphia Road closed between Campbell Boulevard and Middle River Road after 6:30 p.m.
  • US 40/Pulaski Highway closed to westbound traffic at MD 700/Martin Boulevard; now open

While the Baltimore County Fire Department reported around 5:40 p.m. that its personnel were handling multiple calls for vehicles trapped in water, officials said nobody was injured.

By 7:30 p.m., authorities said storm and flooding incidents were subsiding in eastern Baltimore County, while flooding persisted in low-lying areas.

Drivers should continue to use caution on the roads, especially since it is harder to see water in the dark, and the flood warning remains in effect for Harford and Baltimore counties.
