Former Poor Little Rich Girl Building To Be Demolished
Property owners are meeting with contractors Wednesday morning to finalize details.
UPDATE (April 5) — As readers may have noticed, Poor Little Rich Girl still stands.Â
Complications during the permitting process have delayed the demolition, until [drum roll please] this week.Â
Property owner George Perdikakes says that crews have lifted the oil tank out of the structural foundation and plans are in place to bring down the building either Monday evening or Tuesday.Â

Perdikakes said his hope was to bring down the structure all at once to minimize disruption along Belair Road. So far, it is unclear how crews will stage the demolition.Â

ORIGINAL—The old Poor Little Rich Girl bridal shop on Belair Road will be torn down this week, according to Baltimore County Councilman David Marks. Â
"The demolition was supposed to occur several weeks ago," Marks wrote in an email. "I asked the property owner to hold off in case there was anyone in the community who wanted to somehow move and preserve the structure.  Now that the determination has been made to demolish the structure, it will occur this week."
Property owner George Perdikakes, who also owns the neighboring Double T Diner, confirmed that he is speaking with contractors Wednesday morning to determine exactly when the derelict shop will be torn down.Â

"The house has been stripped of many of its features, and right now it is a bit of an eyesore," Marks continued in his email.
Community activist Mark Patro in 2012 attempted to "make some noise" about the planned demolition of the historic structure. He said he objected to tearing down what little was left of the true main street history of the Perry Hall area.
"We always seem to focus on preserving the property of the rich," Patro said Tuesday. He has since dropped his opposition to the demolition.Â
A replacement business for the Downtown Perry Hall property at 9010 Belair Rd. has not yet been finalized, Marks said.Â
"But whatever is built there will have to pass the muster of the Baltimore County Design Review Panel," Marks wrote. "I sponsored legislation putting the Perry Hall commercial revitalization district under that panel because I wanted higher quality development in Downtown Perry Hall."
A series of improvements including new banners and a community clean-up have been planned for the Downtown Perry Hall area in the coming months, Patch reported earlier this week.Â
