Indian Rock Park Gets $126K to Complete Trail Project

The grant is part of $3.2 million in funding for bicycle projects statewide, announced by Governor O'Malley on Thursday.

The funds to complete a bike trail at Indian Rock Park have been secured, as part of a $3.2 million statewide bike trail project announced by Governor Martin O'Malley on Thursday.

County Councilman David Marks, who has been working since 2009 to secure the funds for the project to connect a trail from Ebenezer Road to the Silver Hall community, said the $126,000 grant should be enough to complete the project.

"This has been one of my top transportation priorities in Perry Hall, as it will help open up an unused park and connect the neighborhoods," Marks said in a statement.

Marks has seen the project awarded more than $40,000 over the past several years.

"To build a modern transportation system that supports all Marylanders, we must seek a balanced approach and invest in alternative forms of travel like bicycling," O'Malley said in a statement.

In addition to expanding the bicycle networks, O'Malley said the additions "encourage healthy lifestyles and play a role in improving our air quality, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change in Maryland.
