Nottingham Man Named State's First Master Angler
A Nottingham man caught 10 trophy-sized fish, earning the title of Maryland's first Master Angler Award recipient.

NOTTINGHAM, MD — A Nottingham resident was recently named the state's first FishMaryland Master Angler Award recipient. The award was set up this year through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to encourage year-round recreation in the state.
Gary Simpson of Nottingham caught 10 different species of trophy-sized fish, the criteria for winning the FishMaryland Master Angler Award, natural resources officials announced this week. The fish had to be caught after Jan. 1, 2019.
"It takes a lot of talent and determination to achieve the Master Angler Award," Recreational Fishing Outreach Coordinator Erik Zlokovitz said in a statement this week, when the department announced the recognition. "We are very excited for Mr. Simpson."

There are several levels for honorees — someone who catches three species may be eligible for an angler award, and one who catches five could qualify for the expert angler award.
"Maryland’s fishery is diverse and offers opportunities for any angler," Zlokovitz said.
