An open letter to Congressman Andy Harris
A few points regarding the current tax reform proposals being debated...

Dear Dr. Harris,
As I listened with growing concern to yesterday's telephone town hall, I found it increasingly difficult to reconcile my belief in your fundamental sincerity and devotion to sound conservative values with your out-on-a-limb rationalizations for supporting what are, from my perspective, insupportable positions in defense of the Trumped-up so-called "tax reform" efforts currently underway.
Not content with deficit limits that limit nothing at all because the goalposts are moved every time they are approached, neither the House nor the Senate proposal now going to conference represent any real reform of the Byzantine morass they purport to "improve". You spoke in the town hall about your children and grandchildren, and assert that you are concerned about the economic legacy they will inherit. I could not tell, over an audio-only link, whether you maintained a straight face while excreting that particular inappropriate effusion, but I hope you had the decency and self-awareness to at least blush.
Please, do as I have done and actually read the words:

The abject absence of common-sense protections that would remove some of the most flagrantly excessive reductions in the (highly likely) event that the rosy projections for future revenues produced by the hoped-for stimulus are not fulfilled is only one of the many glaring flaws that will allow the professional nay-sayers to expose even your most well-intentioned supporters to public humiliation and derision.
As a former member of our Maryland state legislature, I trust that you have not forgotten how critical it is to keep income and expenditures at least within shouting distance of each other.
Please, Andy, don't make me vote for a Democrat! I want you to continue to represent me, and I want to be able to continue to support you with a clear conscience. There is only so much "hold your nose and vote for him anyway" I can stand.
Come back home to us (your conservative constituents). Be the true and honest fiscal conservative your heart calls you to be, and that I want to believe you are, deep down.
