Perry Hall Lacrosse Alumni Recall Winning '93 Season

The Perry Hall team to beat Dulaney High School were honored at the halftime of Wednesday evening's game.

The first (and last) time Perry Hall High School defeated Dulaney High School in lacrosse, President Bill Clinton was still settling into the Oval Office.

And the boys, now men, from that '93 team remember it well—the game that is, not the President. It was the same year that Perry Hall would bring home its first county title.

"And we knew then that we were going to win it," Joe Farinetti, class of '94, said.

Members of the memorable '93 squad were honored Wednesday at the halftime of the Dulaney High School match-up to commemorate the school's 20-year anniversary of not only beating the Lions, but bringing home the county championship as well.

"The biggest thing was taking our school through a transition," then team captain Farinetti said. That year, Perry Hall trounced all of Baltimore County routinely scoring in the double digits while keeping opponents to under 10. Members of the team were present with placards chronicling the team's rise to prominence to prove it.

Farinetti described a Perry Hall then known for its baseball legacy, although a rivalry with the team from Timonium has survived the ages across all sports.

"I hope it's something that we can keep up," Mike Cavaselis, class of '95, said.

Farinetti recalled one of his favorite memories, playing against Dulaney at Perry Hall Elementary School. It would be years before the lacrosse were allowed on the same turf as football.

Farinetti, a face-off specialist, broke free of defender dashing down the sideline before dishing the ball off to Faith who juked a defender "out of his shorts," Farinetti said.

He recalled a group of students motioning to the beleaguered defender to pull his pants back up.

"I'll never forget that," Farinetti said.

Perry Hall varsity and junior varsity teams beat Dulaney together four times that year.

Varsity secured a comfortable 11-7 victory during the regular season and a close 9-8 win in the playoffs.

But it appears as though Dulaney has taken the, pun intended, lion's share of bragging rights over the years. The last time Perry Hall beat Dulaney was 1995—and that was JV. Varsity hasn't seen a "W" against Dulaney since 1994.

It appeared as though today's Perry Hall was a solid match in the first half of Wednesday's game, taking the game into the third quarter tied 5-5. Although the experienced Lions broke away in the second half pouncing on a 14-6 victory.
