Perry Hall Middle School PTSA to Sponsor Drug Prevention Session for Parents

Former Baltimore County Drug Czar will present information to parents and the community.

To address developing trends in drug use and prevention, including the ongoing opioid epidemic, Perry Hall Middle School's Parent Teacher Student Association will host Michael Gimbel, former Baltimore County drug czar, on November 15, 2017, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30). The free event will be held at Perry Hall Middle School, located at 4300 Ebenezer Road, Baltimore, Md., 21236. The no-nonsense presentation and community discussion will focus on alcohol use and street drug trends, preventive education and community resources for treatment.

Baltimore County saw the highest surge in drug-related deaths in the state in the first quarter of 2017 – 176 people died during that time, compared with 113 people in the first quarter of 2016, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

The Perry Hall Middle School PTSA believes sponsoring this parents-only event will facilitate early intervention and help to inform parents and community leaders in an effort to decrease the incidence of addiction and death. A follow-up event for parents and students is planned for Spring 2018.
