Perry Hall Strip Shopping Center Cited By County; Demolition Delayed
The Regester Square shopping strip at 8833 Belair Road was deemed an unsafe structure by county inspectors.
The former Poor Little Rich Girl bridal shop isn't the only crumbling structure on Belair Road with a delayed demolition date.
The Regester Square shopping center at 8833 Belair Road was slated for demolition earlier this year although the plan submitted to county did not meet stormwater management requirements, according to Councilman David Marks.
"I'm as frustrated as everyone else," Mark said. "I drive by the structure every day and want it to be redeveloped. I've placed one or two calls a week to the developer and am trying to move this process along."

Property owner John Mazarakis said he submitted a revised demolition proposal to the county Friday. He said all that is left is a stamp of approval from sediment and erosion inspectors, which could come "as early as today, or sometime next week."Â

"The demolition is the easy part," Mazarakis said. "They're begging me to start their bulldozers."
And not a moment too soon.
The derelict strip was issued a citation by county inspectors Thursday for being an unsafe structure.
"Front of existing shopping strip has been demolished without permit and remains open to the public," the citation reads. "Other areas have remains of falling roof framing at nursery."
The citation also mandates that the property has to be boarded up and secured from public access.
Currently, shards of broken glass and stone rubble litter the sidewalks. Two of the former business units are completely open and exposed.
Initially, the plan was bring the Seasons Pizza shop back to the shopping strip, although Mazarakis said now he is expecting all new tenants will move in once the project is complete.
The Regester Square shopping strip is located inside the boundaries of Perry Hall's commercial revitalization district, which provides businesses with special assistance from the county.
