Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect for Baltimore-Harford Area

Weather officials also issued a marine warning for the Gunpowder River as storm moves through the region.

Northeastern Baltimore County and southwestern Harford County are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

A severe thunderstorm was seen on radar near the White Marsh-Middle River area at approximately 3 p.m., moving east, according to the National Weather Service.

Damaging winds—with gusts of 60 mph—may bring trees and large branches down, blocking roads and injuring people who are outside.

Power outages are possible.

Weather officials advise going indoors to stay protected from wind, lightning and falling trees. If in a building with large trees outside, move to an interior room on the lowest floor. Do not drive below trees or in wooded areas until the warning has expired, officials say.

Impacted areas may include Middle River, Bel Air South, Perry Hall, Rossville, White Marsh, Riverside, Perryman, Kingsville, Edgewood, Joppatowne, Abingdon, Magnolia, Gunpowder, Chase, Nottingham, Joppa, Belcamp and Bradshaw.

Torrential rain is also occurring, weather officials report. Drivers are advised to avoid roads that are flooded; turn around—don't drown.

The Gunpowder River is under a marine warning until 4 p.m., as the storm may cause boaters in small crafts to be thrown overboard. Winds and waves that rapidly increase may lead boats to capsize.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight for Maryland.

A flash flood watch is effective until 11 a.m. on Friday for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford and Howard counties with the potential for torrential downpours.
