Therapy Dog Group Thanked After Sandy Hook Tragedy

The first time Perry Hall's Pets on Wheels volunteer group made the trip to Newtown, CT, they were on a mission: to comfort a town in mourning.Â
It was rainy, cold and miserable, Vicki Rummel, Pets on Wheels director, said.Â
This past weekend, making a second trek again six months after the tragedy, the purpose of the trip was appreciation.Â
It was pleasant and sunny, Rummel said, although "they're still pretty raw," she added of the grieving townspeople.Â
"We thought, so that's what Newtown actually looks like," Rummel said after attending a weekend thank-you luncheon at the Newtown Fairfield Hills Campus.Â
The 10-person group from Perry Hall traveled the furtherest to make the ceremony. About 50 therapy dogs who provided care to school age children and parents following the tragedy were in attendance.Â
Liz Hussian Luzietti, the first woman the group met back in December. Luzietti was so moved by the group's noble efforts, that she herself began take care of a therapy dog.Â
