Weather Alert: Flood Warning in Effect

Flooding is possible with this afternoon's storms, weather officials say.

A flood warning is in effect until 9:30 p.m. for north central Baltimore County and northeastern Harford County.

According to the National Weather Service, more than 1 inch of rain had fallen in Norrisville by 3:40 p.m., where flooding was beginning to occur.

Authorities said these spots could by affected by flooding: Jarrettsville, Pylesville, Darlington, Street, Freeland, Cardiff, Norrisville, Chrome Hill, Rocks, Bentley Springs, Scarboro, Whiteford and the Maryland line.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. on Monday for most of the state.

Expired: A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Baltimore, Carroll and Harford counties. The warning expires at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18.

Damaging winds may cause trees and large branches to fall.

Wind gusts may be greater than 60 mph.

People should go inside and move to an interior room on the bottom floor if there are trees nearby. Drivers should avoid traveling through wooded areas until the warning period expires.

Areas affected include northeastern Carroll County, northwestern Harford County and Baltimore County, according to the National Weather Service, which listed these in particular: Pikesville, Cockeysville, Towson, Bel Air South, Parkville, Owings Mills, Bel Air North, Carney, Perry Hall, Reisterstown, Rossville, Mays Chapel, Timonium, White Marsh, Fallston, Hampstead, Hampton, Manchester, Kingsville and Pleasant Hills.

Severe thunderstorm activity was identified near the Manchester-Hampstead-Gamber area after 3:30 p.m., weather officials reported.

Weather officials said that torrential rains and flash flooding are possible.
