UPDATE: Company Withdraws Application for Apartment Complex

UPDATE Oct. 4, 4:45 p.m.: The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company announced Friday afternoon that The Shelter Group—the company that applied to build a 120-apartment complex on Ebenezer Road—has withdrawn its application to build.

In the letter (attached above), the company insists that the land must be sold in order for the company to continue with plans to relocate.

"The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company needs to relocate its fire station in order to better serve the citizens and visitors," the letter says. "The existing property is unable to accomplish those goals."

The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company explained its agreement with The Shelter Group—the company applying to build a 120-apartment complex on Ebenezer Road—in an open letter to the community.

In addition, the company received a land donation where the it plans to build its new fire station, the company announced.

In a statement, fire company officials said they did their "due diligence" before making a decision to sell the parcel it controls across the street from the Ebenezer Road fire station.

"We believe the proposed development will provide much needed housing options for people such as teachers, police officers, and firefighters," fire company officials said in the statement. "Many social media outlets have provided a platform for individuals to state inconsistent and false facts concerning not only this project but the fire company as a whole."

Fire company officials had considered building a new fire station on the parcel, but said leaders at the time deemed the land "not suitable."
