Winter Storm Warning Issued For Baltimore County

Heavy snow is in the forecast for Baltimore County, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a warning.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A winter storm warning is in effect from 5 a.m. to noon Sunday for parts of central and northeastern Maryland, including Baltimore County.

Forecasters expect 3 to 6 inches of heavy snow during the warning period, with the heaviest snowfall anticipated from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Travel could be very difficult.

Here is the timeline, according to the winter storm warning:

  • 5 to 7 a.m. — Snow will start.
  • 8 a.m. to noon — Snow will be heaviest. Visibility may be 0.25 mile. Snow could fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
  • Temperatures are likely to rise above freezing Sunday afternoon.
  • Below-freezing temperatures are expected Sunday night.

Due to icy and slippery conditions, people should watch their first few steps outside on stairs, driveways and sidewalks.

Those who must drive should keep an extra flashlight as well as food and water in their vehicles.

The winter storm warning applies to the following:

  • Baltimore City
  • Baltimore County
  • Carroll County
  • Cecil County
  • Frederick County
  • Harford County

Central and southern Maryland as well as northern Virginia are under a separate winter storm warning calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow from 3 a.m. to noon Sunday, with the heaviest snow there from 6 to 10 a.m.
