Acting Classes for Adults and Tots Start This Week

HdG Drama Guild adult workshop begins Jan. 6. Tiny Tots start Jan. 9.

This week, the Havre de Grace Drama Guild starts up two limited time workshops for ages at different ends of the spectrum.

First up is the Guild’s first workshop dedicated solely to ages 18 and up. Beginning Wednesday, January 6 from 6:30-8:30, the “Acting for Adults” class begins and will continue for seven consecutive Wednesdays. The class will work on breathing and vocal production, the basics of orientation on stage and hitting marks, a lesson on playing intent instead of emotion and tips on how to prepare and memorize properly. It will culminate with a monologue and scene workshop on the last class day. Registration is only $15 plus a $10 administrative fee ($15 for non-Harford County residents).

Next is the annual Tiny Tots program for kids in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Children in this class will learn some of the basic fundamentals of the theater, including projection, stage directions and discovering character through age appropriate exercises and games. The class starts on Saturday, January 9 from 10:00 to 11:30 and meets for eight consecutive Saturdays. On the final weekend the class will perform a one-act play of their own, reader’s theater style (no memorization necessary) at noon. Registration is $50 plus the $10 or $15 administrative fee.

All classes are held at the Havre de Grace Activity Center, 351 Lewis Lane. To sign up for either workshop, download a registration form at the Guild’s registration page and deliver it to the Parks & Recreation office in the Activity Center or email it to hdgdrama@yahoo.com (you can bring the form to the first day of class as long as you let the Guild know in advance that you are coming). All fees may be paid online at the registration page or by personal check made payable to ”HdG Rec Comm.”

In order to get a final head count, the Guild is asking anyone who intends to register for either of these classes to RSVP to hdgdrama@yahoo.com as soon as possible. Questions? Contact Ken Coughlan at (443)987-4395 or hdgdrama@yahoo.com.
