NORTH EAST - Gallery attendees will be able to support Cecil College's art program fund by purchasing pieces created by local artists at the opening reception for the colleges "12x12 Exhibition" from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16.
The artworks in the exhibition could be 2D or 3D as long as they fit within 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches.
Entries were gathered from students, faculty and community members, and they range in prices from $5 to $100. Half of the proceeds from each piece sold will benefit the art program fund while the other half will go directly to the artist.

The fund helps meet general needs for the program, such as purchasing kilns or other big ticket items, and also supports the Carol White scholarship for art students.
Haley Miller, a studio and gallery assistant at Cecil College, said the scholarship could be that extra nudge to pursue further education in the field of art.

"It can support someone's dream to become an artist," Miller said. "If we can get them in at Cecil, it's the first step to doing whatever they want to do with their degree afterward."
The scholarship is named after Carol White, who was a full-time faculty member at Cecil College for the majority of the college's existence before she retired a few years ago. White passed away in 2016.
"She helped build the art program into what it is today," Miller said.
The scholarship will be in the amount of $500, according to Cecil College spokesman Richard Haubert.
Miller said the scholarship will help art students attend and stay in school as they hone their craft, while also honoring White's legacy at the college.
"Some students need the money to help to afford to go to classes," she said. "It encourages them to continue with their art degrees. It actually means a lot to them and it also means a lot to the students who knew who Carol White was that we have something celebrating her life."
The artists appraised their own work as long as the value was not more than $100.
"We hold true to the student prices because they know how much work they put into this and what its value is to them," Miller said.
While some galleries do "6x6" shows to support scholarships or raise funds for other events, Cecil College decided to host the "12x12 Exhibition" to welcome a wider range of artists and art buyers who might prefer creating and purchasing larger art, Miller said.
"It's bigger pieces and sometimes people don't want something so tiny ... There's different pieces, different sizes. It can be smaller than 12x12. It just opened up the parameters so more people could submit," she said.
The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, as well as three hours before Milburn Stone Theatre productions, through Jan. 21.
