The Adopt-A-Road Program allows families, volunteer groups, businesses, and community organizations to adopt a stretch of County road to help clean up litter and trash and beautify our communities. Currently, there are 30 organizations that have adopted roads through this program.
To combat road litter and trash in Cecil, County Executive Hornberger set a goal of having 15 new groups sign-up for the Adopt-A-Road Program by World Cleanup Day in September.

“Litter has been an issue in Cecil County, especially during the Coronavirus Pandemic, and I hope that our adoption of Belle Hill Road will kickstart a movement to clean up our roadways. Keeping Cecil County beautiful is a public effort and I am hopeful the community will follow our lead”, stated County Executive Danielle Hornberger.
The Department of Public Works will provide participating groups with safety vests, warning signs, Adopt-A-Road signs with the eligible group’s name, and assistance in taking away trash bags. Participating groups are expected to pick up litter along their designated road four times a year. More information on the Adopt-A-Road Program, including how to register, can be found in the following link: ADOPT A ROAD Program 2021.
The County Executive and her team plan on hosting their first cleanup day on Saturday, May 1.
“I invite Cecil County residents, businesses, and organizations to join us in cleaning up our community, whether it be by joining our Adopt-A-Road Program or by getting out this Spring to clean up around your home, work, or school,” added County Executive Hornberger.
In addition, municipalities from across the County, including Rising Sun, Elkton, and Charlestown are hosting cleanup events of their own on May 1!
