- Facilitated $240,000 in CARES funding to local volunteer fire companies for the purchase of lifesaving equipment.
- Hosted COVID-19 vaccine distribution clinics with the Cecil County Health Department and directed the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services to provide mobile vaccination units with assistance from our emergency medical technicians.
- Successfully lobbied the State for additional vaccines, in the midst of a statewide cut, which added 975 vaccines to Cecil County’s allocation – thus preventing hundreds of appointment cancelations to our most vulnerable seniors.
- Worked with the State Department of Planning and the Federal Department of Agriculture to ensure a solution to the former Southern States’ water pollution on Wilson Road in Rising Sun.
- Joined the County Council in lobbying the Maryland Legislature in support of, or in opposition to, bills that would effect Cecil County. This includes support for HB 1329, which would relocate the I-95 toll plaza to a place that is more equitable for County residents.
- Appointed a new Ethics Commission ushering in a new era of integrity, accountability, and transparency.
- Identified $2.5 million in operating expense savings to make up for the first and second quarter deficits created by the previous administration.
- Completed a comprehensive review of capital improvement projects to determine what projects are most urgent to County residents, what can be paused, and what can be done more efficiently.
- Reinstituted the County’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Advisory Board, at the request of local volunteer fire companies, and requested that the County Council formally establish the Board in County Code. This Board, which was disbanded by the previous administration, will provide the administration with insight and advice on how EMS and volunteer fire companies can work together to better protect Cecil County residents.
- Administered almost $700,000 in grants directly to: restaurants, hotels, and agribusinesses.
- In response to the frightening increase in opioid deaths in Cecil County, organized an Opioid Summit next month (April 23) with health professionals, law enforcement, emergency services, and community partners, to formulate actionable tasks the County can take to reduce opioid abuse and fatalities.
- Worked with Great Wolf Lodge to fast track their project at the Perryville location, which is set to be the largest Great Wolf Lodge in the entire Country, and directed the Cecil County Office of Economic Development to work closely with the builder to ensure a seamless and timely groundbreaking.
County Executive Hornberger issued the following statement regarding her first 100 days in office:
“I ran for office to cut wasteful spending, usher in transparency, bring in expert professionals, stop the revolving door of cronyism, and create a better relationship with our 8 municipalities - all to make Cecil County a better place to live and fairer place to do business - and that is exactly what I have been doing these past 100 days. I look forward to the next 100 days when we will introduce a fiscally responsible, detailed, and more transparent budget, host the Opioid Summit, and continue to work for all residents of Cecil County - not just those with special interests.”
