CECIL COUNTY, MD — School officials say that the Cecil County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible case of child pornography. Authorities are asking people not to distribute anything that may seem to match that description, and instead to contact the sheriff's office. Additionally, officials are encouraging people to talk to their children about the seriousness of such material.

"The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a pornographic video of a minor that may be circulating around the county," Cecil County Public Schools officials said in a statement. "The Sheriff’s Office has asked that we communicate with all families in an effort to make everyone aware of the serious consequences associated with the possession or distribution of pornography."

Promoting and distributing child pornography carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to a $25,000 fine in the state of Maryland.
