Snow Emergency Plan Lifted In Cecil County

Officials have deactivated the snow emergency plan Wednesday in Cecil County.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — The snow emergency plan has been lifted in Cecil County. The plan was lifted as of 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20. It took effect Wednesday morning.

(PREVIOUS REPORT: EXPIRED as of 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20) — Cecil County is under a snow emergency plan on Wednesday, Feb. 20. In a snow emergency, state police may immediately authorize the towing of vehicles parked on snow emergency routes as well as those left in roads or on shoulders.

To drive on Maryland highways in a snow emergency, vehicles must be equipped with snow tires (all-weather tires are fine), chains or all-season radials.

The snow emergency plan is to assist the State Highway Administration in snow clearing operations throughout the county.

Elkton had gotten 2.2 inches of snow by 12:30 p.m., based on preliminary data submitted to the National Weather Service.

Cecil County is under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m., and an additional 2 inches of snow and glaze of ice may accumulate, weather officials said.

Drivers should slow down if they must travel.

Cecil County Public Schools: Closed.

Cecil County government: Closed at 10 a.m.; evening/afternoon meetings canceled.
