Darlington Horse Breeder Allen Murray Dies
In 2002, the breeder sold Our Emblem, sire of 2002 Preakness winner War Emblem, for $10 million.

Darlington horse breeder Allen Murray has died.
The owner of Murmur and Berkley farms in Darlington was 80, The Baltimore Sun reports. He died of natural causes.
Murray is best known for bringing the horse Our Emblem to Maryland. Our Emblem sired War Emblem, the winner in the 2002 Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby. Murray sold Our Emblem for $10 million before the Belmont Stakes that year, only a year after purchasing the horse for $200,000, according to the Sun report.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Maryland Horsemen’s Assistance Fund, 500 Redland Court, Suite 105, Owings Mills, MD 21117 or the Maryland Heart Association.
