Drama Guild Adds Acting Class for Adults
Starting in January, the Havre de Grace Drama Guild will add a 7-week acting class specifically for those 18 and up.

The Havre de Grace Drama Guild got its start in 2008. For the first three years, its offerings were exclusively for children. The Guild evolved into having classes for three different age groups from Kindergarten through High School and put on a large musical each Spring with all the kids.
That all changed on May 15, 2011, when the Lewis Lane Players, the Guild’s adult performance group, put on its first performance on board the Lantern Queen River Boat. Since that time, the Lewis Lane Players have evolved into a traditional community theater which puts on three productions each year. Past shows have included classics like “Steel Magnolias,” “Blithe Spirit” and “Trifles,” and hilarious comedies such as Michael Frayn’s farce “Alarms and Excursions” and this past weekend’s “Bull in a China Shop.”
Over the past four and a half years, people have periodically asked whether the Guild offered any acting classes specifically for adults. To date, the answer has always been “unfortunately no.” The only adult offerings were via auditioning for one of the Lewis Lane Players’ productions or in the Guild’s film workshop offered by the film making division, KEG Productions.

This year, though, the Board members of the Guild decided to add to their already vast array of educational opportunities and include a seven week acting class specifically for adults ages 18 and up. Taught by experienced educator and director Laura Parker, this class will be held on seven consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning January 6, 2016. Each class runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Havre de Grace Activity Center, 351 Lewis Lane. The students will work on a monologue/scene which will be performed during the final class session on February 17.
The cost for the entire seven week session is only $25 for Harford County residents, $30 for non-residents. This includes a $10 ($15 for non-residents) administrative fee (which only needs to be paid once per program year regardless of how many Guild programs you join; actors who are a part of either of the Guild’s fall productions have already paid this fee and do not need to pay it again) plus $15 registration for the class.
