Did you know?

  • There are plans to close Harford Memorial Hospital (HMH) in Havre de Grace.
  • There are no plans to replace it as a fll service hospital. Instead a freeestanding medical facility will be built, with an expanded Behavioral Health Center, Emergency Department and a few observation beds at RT 155 and RT 95 in Havre de Grace. There will no longer be acute care, in-patient or surgical facilities available within 18-24 miles.
  • Services are already being reduced or eliminated at HMH even though promises have been made that the hospital will continue on until the new facility is in place.

  • Tuesday Evening: come out to show your support for keeping our rural hospital operating as a hospital, and for affordable, accessible, quality care by attending the next Community Meeting on Tuesday, April 5, at 6 p.m. at the Perryville Fire Hall, 920 Principio Furnace Rd.

What this closure means for me?

  • When I am injured or severely ill and need an ambulance, EMS Transport will transport me to Bel Air or Elkton.
  • EMS Transport may take me to the new freestanding medical facility -- the closest emergency room -- but if I need surgery or to be admitted I will be transported a second time, to the hospital in BEl Air or Elkton, but most likely Bel Air from that freestanding medical facility location.
  • All my in-patient surgeries will be done, and my ICU or acute care stays will be, at Union Hospital or Upper CHesapeake and I will need to travel longer distances and possibly face limited transportation choices to visit loved ones admitted to the hospital. This will impact my sick loved ones who may experience fewer visits or negative effects of being moved from place to place.
