Pedestrian Killed On I-95 In Cecil County: Police

Police said a pedestrian was killed Saturday night trying to cross Interstate 95 in Cecil County.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — A man died on Interstate 95 in Cecil County Saturday night trying to cross the highway near MD 272, according to Maryland State Police. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, police reported.

The 23-year-old man was crossing from the southbound to the northbound lanes of I-95 when he was hit by a white Infiniti, according to authorities. Investigators are still working to understand why he was trying to walk across the highway.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to officials, who said the driver of the Infiniti remained at the location.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officials said neither drugs nor alcohol apppeared to have been a factor into the crash.

For more than three hours, I-95 north was closed in the area of MD 272 following the crash.

Lanes reopened on I-95 north by 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23, police said.

PREVIOUS REPORT: Interstate 95 north is shut down in Cecil County Saturday night so that emergency officials can respond to a collision. The crash happened around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22.

Two vehicles were involved, according to state transportation officials.

I-95 was closed to northbound traffic past MD 272, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported as of 10:09 p.m.

Southbound traffic was not impacted on I-95.
