Fatal I-95 Crash Near Perryville Involved Motorcyclist: Police

Crash reconstruction is expected to take hours on I-95 south past the Perryville toll plaza, police said.

PERRYVILLE, MD - A motorcyclist died in a crash past the Perryville toll plaza Wednesday on Interstate 95 south, according to Maryland State Police. Officials are not identifying the man publicly until his next of kin have been notified.

The driver, who had crashed his motorcycle on the left shoulder, was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on I-95 south past the exit for MD 222, according to state transportation officials.

A medevac was called but was canceled before 6 p.m., according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

At least two lanes will be closed on I-95 south for the next several hours due to crash reconstruction, police said in a statement at 7 p.m., noting there was a large field of debris around the site of the collision.

"At this time, this appears to be a single-vehicle crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation," police said in a statement at 7 p.m. "Lanes are expected to be closed for the next several hours."

Traffic was getting by on the right lane and right shoulder.

PREVIOUS REPORT: All lanes were temporarily closed on Interstate 95 south near Perryville as the result of a serious crash Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

The collision was fatal, the Community Fire Company of Perryville reported.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on I-95 south past the exit for MD 222, according to state transportation officials.

The center lane had reopened on I-95 south past Route 222, authorities said just before 6 p.m.

Drivers should expect delays on US 40, MD 222 and I-95, fire officials advised.
