Pedestrian Killed In Route 40 Crash In Cecil County: Police

Police said a pedestrian was killed this weekend trying to cross Pulaski Highway near Mechanics Valley Road.

NORTH EAST, MD – Police said a Pennsylvania woman died over the weekend following a crash in Cecil County. She was trying to cross US 40/Pulaski Highway in North East, where officials reported the Route 40 was closed for five hours Saturday night into Sunday morning for the investigation.

Lauren Brusca, 31, of Horsham, Pennsylvania, was crossing Route 40 east when she was hit at approximately 10:45 p.m. Saturday west of Mechanics Valley Road, police said.

Brusca, who had been wearing dark clothing in an area that was not well lit and not designed for pedestrians, was hit by a 2005 Honda Odyssey, according to officials.

Robert Malinowski, 47, of Earleville, was in the left lane on eastbound Route 40 when he hit the woman crossing the street, officials said.

It was unknown whether alcohol was a factor, police reported Sunday night.

Officials said Brusca was airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she succumbed to her injuries after 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Route 40 east was closed between Rogers Road and Mechanics Valley Road for approximately five hours while a crash reconstructionist investigated, according to police.
