Tornado Watch Issued For 5 Maryland Counties

CECIL COUNTY, MD — A tornado watch has been issued for five counties in Maryland, including Cecil County. The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado. People in these areas should be prepared and remain aware that a tornado is possible.

In the event of a tornado, people should seek shelter immediately.

These counties in northeastern Maryland are under the tornado watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday:

• Caroline
• Cecil
• Kent
• Queen Anne's
• Talbot County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook indicating that severe thunderstorms are possible until 11 p.m. in Maryland, with northeastern Maryland particularly at risk.

After 5 p.m. on Tuesday, weather officials said that a severe thunderstorm in Cecil County was producing 60 mph wind gusts and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.
