I-95 Tanker Crash In Cecil: Driver Hospitalized, Lanes Reopen
Interstate 95 was closed in both directions for two hours Thursday after a tractor-trailer crash requiring a medevac in Cecil County.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — A tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 95 in Cecil County Thursday caused major backups from the Elkton area to the Delaware state line. Extensive cleanup was required after the tanker overturned in the median near MD 279/Elkton Road, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
The crash occurred after noon, state transportation officials said. A medevac was called to the scene and had left by 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, authorities reported.
I-95 was closed around MD 272 from about 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., according to transportation officials.

Crews worked for an hour to free the driver of the tanker, which was carrying oil, from the wreck, according to WJZ, which reported he was flown to shock trauma for treatment.
Amid the closure, detours were in effect onto US 40 to MD 272 to I-95 as well as onto MD 273 to MD 272 to I-95, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported.

During the evening rush hour, authorities said southbound I-95 was open, while the center and left lanes of I-95 north remained closed for the crash response at MD 279.
By 6 p.m. on Thursday, officials said that all lanes had reopened on I-95 near MD 272.
