Fatal Tractor-Trailer Crash Closes I-95 South In Cecil County
Drivers taking I-95 south in Cecil County from the North East area should take alternate routes due to an extended closure.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — One person died in a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 95 south Tuesday afternoon in Cecil County. Authorities say a tractor-trailer overturned on I-95 south past the exit for MD 272/exit 100.
Police said the driver has not yet been publicly identified, pending next of kin notification.
I-95 south is closed past the exit for MD 272 and has remained so for several hours.

The deadly crash happened around 1:45 p.m. at mile marker 97.1, police reported.
Authorities said that a trooper from the JFK Barrack had been conducting a traffic stop at mile marker 97 on I-95 south when the tractor-trailer left the highway, hit the trooper's vehicle, crashed into the stopped vehicle and then flipped over on the right shoulder.

Although the trooper and the other driver were out of their cars at the time of the crash, police said neither was injured.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was pronounced deceased at the scene, police reported. The reason for the crash was unknown as of Tuesday night, according to police.
Hazardous materials crews were called to the scene due to a fuel spill associated with the tractor-trailer crash, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
Traffic was being detoured from I-95 south at MD 279/exit 109, and drivers were advised to take US 40 or US 1 as alternate routes.
