The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Cecil County calling for several inches of snow.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — There could be up to 7 inches of snow on the ground by Monday morning in Cecil County, according to the National Weather Service. The agency has issued a winter storm warning due to conditions that could make travel impossible or hazardous.

The winter storm warning calls for 4 to 7 inches of snow in Cecil County.

The warning is in effect from 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, to 7 a.m. on Monday, March 4.

A winter storm warning means that severe winter weather conditions are forecast.

  • Sunday afternoon — Rain and snow
  • Sunday night — All snow (heaviest from 5 to 11 p.m.)
  • Late Sunday night — Snow and sleet
  • Early Monday morning — Snow

The snow is expected to fall at a rate of 1 inch per hour between 5 and 11 p.m. on Sunday, particularly in areas close to Interstate 95, according to the National Weather Service.

"While the precipitation will end before the Monday morning commute, hazardous conditions should still be occurring from the earlier heavy wet snow and sleet," the warning states.

Those going outside should watch for slippery or icy sidewalks, driveways, steps and roads.
Drivers should keep an extra flashlight as well as food and water in case of an emergency.
