2017 Quicken Loans National Comes To Potomac This Week
The golf event is heading to TPC Potomac in Montgomery County for the first time in the tournament's 11-year history.

POTOMAC, MD — The world's top golfers are heading to TPC Potomac this week to play at the 2017 Quicken Loans National. The PGA Tour golf event will be held in Montgomery County for the first time in the tournament's 11-year history from June 29 to July 2.
The Quicken Loans National invites 120 of the top golf players to play for their share of the $7.1 million purse and compete for the coveted Quicken Loans National title, while raising funds and awareness for the Tiger Woods Foundation.
The tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods and pays tribute to U.S. armed forces and low-income students of the Tiger Woods Foundation. The foundation also distributes complimentary tickets to members of the armed forces.

The tournament raises money for the Tiger Woods Foundation, which creates “programs [that] break the cycle of poverty through college-access opportunities for low-income students.” The educational programs create connections between schooling and a career, and help design a plan for college for these first-generation scholars.
Woods, 41, will not be at the tournament this year, as he's currently getting professional help for pain medication in the wake of his Memorial Day DUI. While he did not have alcohol in his system, Woods told police that he had been taking several prescription medications.

Woods was found asleep behind the wheel of his black Mercedes and had to be woken up with the vehicle still running and his brake lights on. He was charged with DUI after he was unable to tie his shoes or definitively say where he was going at the time of his arrest.
He was already going to sit out of the tournament because of back surgery that has prevented him from playing since early this year.
“Tiger will stay in touch with the tournament and receive regular updates during the week,” Wood's publicist, Rick Singer, said in a statement, according to The Washington Post.
Virginia native Billy Hurley III will return to the tournament this year to defend his championship title. Hurley won his first PGA TOUR event at the 2016 Quicken Loans National at Congressional County Club in Bethesda last year. He ended his final round with a score of 17-under for the tournament and 3-under for the day, according to a statement.
