Congressional Candidate David Trone Being Treated For Cancer

Potomac resident David Trone announced he has cancer but will continue his campaign.

POTOMAC, MD — Democratic congressional candidate David Trone of Potomac announced Monday that he is being treated for cancer and plans to continue his campaign.

Trone is running for the 6th Congressional District seat held by Rep. John Delaney, also of Potomac. Delaney is vacating the seat to run for president in 2020.

"On Monday, June 25, it was confirmed that I had a tumor in my urinary tract. Since then, I have undergone chemotherapy treatment at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, a treatment that has led to a substantial reduction in the size of the tumor," Trone said in a statement, reported by Montgomery Community Media.

Trone, a co-founder of Total Wine & More, is scheduled for surgery to remove his kidney in mid-September.

"They say I may miss a few days of the campaign immediately after the surgery, but nothing will interfere with my being fully engaged as a candidate and as a member of Congress after the recovery," Trone said.
