Eight Maryland Billionaires Make the 2015 Forbes List

Check out the list of Maryland billionaires who made the annual list of the wealthiest people in the world.

Maryland has eight uber-wealthy residents who made Forbes 2015 list of the planet’s billionaires.

The names include sports business owners – Steve Bisciotti and Kevin Plank – and investors like Mitchell Rales.

The magazine says there are now 1,826 billionaires worldwide with a combined net worth of $7.05 trillion, up from $6.4 trillion a year ago.

There aren’t any surprise at the top of the Americans on the billionaire heap: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett and Oracle’s Larry Ellison are the leaders.

Forbes, which has been compiling the list since 1986, says the rankings show entrepreneurship is alive and well: 1,191 members of the list are self-made billionaires, while only 230 inherited their fortunes.

Here are the Maryland billionaires on the list:

  • Ted Lerner of Chevy Chase, developer and founder of Lerner Enterprises, is No. 330 on the list. Net worth: $4.8 billion. He was No. 112 on the fall Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans.
  • Mitchell Rales of Potomac, co-founder of Danaher investment firm, is No. 418. Net worth: $4 billion. Also, No. 144 on U.S. list.
  • Kevin Plank of Lutherville, founder and CEO of Under Armour, is No. 577. Net worth: $3.1 billion. Also, No. 209 on U.S. list.
  • David Rubenstein of Bethesda, co-chief executive officer and co-founder, Carlyle Group, is No. 628. Net worth: $2.9 billion. Also, No. 198 on U.S. list.
  • Stephen Bisciotti of Millersville, co-founder of Allegis staffing company and owner of the Baltimore Ravens, is No. 690. Net worth: $2.7 billion. Also, No. 249 on U.S. list.
  • Bernard Saul II of Chevy Chase, chairman and CEO of Saul Centers Inc., is No. 714. Net worth: $2.6 billion. Also, No. 252 on U.S. list
  • Dan Snyder of Potomac, owner of the Washington Redskins, is No. 1,118. Net worth: $1.7 billion. Also, No. 371 on U.S. list/
  • Jim Davis of Cockeysville, co-founder and now head of Allegis, a staffing company, is No. 1,638. Net worth: $1.1 billion. Was not on fall U.S. top 400 list.
