Joe Theismann To Consider Letting Dwayne Haskins Wear His Number
Washington Redskins' legendary quarterback Joe Theismann may let Potomac's Dwayne Haskins wear his number. First they must meet.

POTOMAC, MD — For legendary quarterback Joe Theismann and newcomer Dwayne Haskins of the Washington Redskins, the number seven is a very special number.
Theismann wore the digit during his 12 seasons in Washington and for the Redskins' Super Bowl win in 1983. Haskins — selected No. 15 overall in the NFL draft last Thursday — wore it while playing at Bullis High School in Potomac and at Ohio State University.
Now that he's suiting up to play with the Redskins, what number will he wear?

In an NFL Network interview, "NFL Total Access" host Scott Hanson told Haskins that No. 7 was available.
So, will Theismann give Haskins the green light to wear the number for the Burgundy and Gold?

"I gotta talk to Mr. Theismann first before I get that number," the 2018 Heisman Trophy finalist told Hanson. "We'll see."
If Theismann does give Haskins the go-ahead, Haskins will only be the second Redskins player to wear the No. 7, according to Pro Football Reference.
On Twitter last Thursday, Theismann welcomed Haskins to the team, highlighting the fact that they both represent No. 7.
Dwayne, welcome to the family. From one #7 to another.

"I'm anxious to sit down and talk to Dwayne about that," Theismann said on Monday's episode of NBC's "Redskins Talk" podcast. "I'm not opposed to it. I'm not saying yes yet, but I really want to sit down and talk to the young man and get a chance to meet him. I know he's reached out and said he wants to ask me, so as early as I can get back into town and be able to set up an opportunity when he gets into town to be able to sit down and talk to him about it."
Theismann explained he wanted to get to know Haskins before making a decision.
"It's what's inside the jersey that makes a big difference," Theismann said. "I've been very honored to have the Washington Redskins not have it issued to anyone over 30-plus years, and this is the first 7 that we've had come along, I think.
"So I really wanna sit down and have a visit with him and talk to him about it and then we'll sort of decide going forward."
