March 9 Meeting on Secret WW2 Military Site

Free program hosted by Potomac Community Village at Potomac Community Center, March 9, 12:30 p.m.

The secret address, its strategic importance to World War II Intelligence-gathering, and its transformation into Fort Hunt Park and addition to the National Register of Historic Places will be revealed by Dorothy Canter on March 9, at a Potomac Community Village-hosted program. Canter is a founding member of Friends of Fort Hunt Park, a non-profit partner of the National Park Service.

With degrees in Mathematics and Bio-Physics, Canter, a Washington, D.C. native, also has extensive experience in toxicology and risk assessment and was an active participant in the cleanup
after the anthrax attacks on Capitol Hill. Her distinguished career includes service at the National Institutes of Health and 29 years at the Environmental Protection Agency.

“The incredible history of this location, originally owned by George Washington as part of his River Farm portion of Mount Vernon, reveals secret interrogations of high-value World War II German prisoners
of war, including Richard Gehlen, head of Nazi intelligence on the Eastern front. Even more incredible is that translators who contributed in a significant way by listening in on conversations among prisoners were Jews who had escaped from Nazi Germany,” Canter says.
