Potomac Ranks High On 'Best Place To Live In Maryland' List

Data site Niche.com ranked Potomac high on the 2018's best place to live in Maryland list, based on schools, crime rate, diversity and more.

POTOMAC, MD — What's the best place to live in Maryland? That depends on who you ask. According to a new set of rankings released by the neighborhood data site Niche.com, Potomac placed high on the "Best Places to Live in Maryland" 2018 list.

Potomac came in at No. 11 out of 251 communities.

Niche.com took several factors into consideration to arrive at the rankings, such as: the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, diversity, nightlife, walkability, weather, employment statistics and access to amenities.

Researchers gave Potomac: A+ in public schools; A+ in good for families; B+ in diversity; B in nightlife and B in housing. The population is 45,882 and the estimated median home value is $889,100.

A current Potomac resident said: "Potomac is a great town to live in. Since it is only a short drive from Washington, DC, you get all the opportunities of a big city while still getting the small town feeling by living in Potomac. From Potomac Village with a mom-and-pop hardware store, to the easily accessible bustling capitol city, Potomac is a unique town as well as community to be a part of. The proximity to Washington, DC, has created a lot of diversity, since a lot of people in Potomac work in Washington. People from all walks of life live in my town, creating numerous cultural events year round."

The suburbs in Montgomery County dominated the rankings. According to Niche.com, these are the best places to live in Maryland:

  2. Garrett Park
  3. North Potomac
  4. Bethesda
  5. South Kensington
  6. Kensington
  7. Ellicott City
  8. Rockville
  9. Urbana
  10. Columbia
