The Rev. Meredith Tobin Heffner Instituted as Fifth Rector of St. James’ Episcopal Church, Potomac, MD
St. James’ Episcopal Church (www.stjamespotomac.org) announced the institution of Reverend Meredith Tobin Heffner as its fifth rector, Saturday, May 20. The Right Reverend Marian Edgar Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (www.edow.org) presided.
Rev. Heffner joined St. James’ from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Alexandria, VA, where she served as Associate Rector from 2008 until joining St. James’. A “cradle Episcopalian,” Rev. Heffner”s passions include mission, preaching, teaching and pastoral care. “I’m especially enthusiastic about family ministries and the many ways we share God's love from generation to generation,” Rev. Heffner remarked.
Prior to entering the priesthood in 2008, Rev. Heffner held various positions in banking, sales and management. She was also active raising her children and volunteering in her community. Recently, she has served as chaplain for the National Breast Cancer Brunch and the Office of the Pentagon Chaplain; and as a Colloquy Mentor, preaching fellow and seminarian supervisor at Virginia Theological Seminary.
Rev. Heffner received a Master of Arts in Divinity from the Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA (www.vts.edu) and a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College, Northampton, MA (www.smith.edu).
Rev. Heffner resides in Fairfax, VA with her husband Douglas. The Heffners have three adult children.
