Silver Spring Hosts Trees Matter Symposium

Tree experts will discuss the efforts towards planting and protecting trees.

Montgomery Parks will host the third annual Trees Matter Symposium to highlight the importance of preserving trees and the steps taken to do so.

The event will take place at the Silver Spring Civic Building, 1 Veterans Place, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5.

The multiple sessions will consist of exploring new tree preservation techniques, the benefits of trees, and their survival in different environments.

The key speakers discussing the health of trees in urban and suburban areas include:

  • Melanie Choukas-Bradley: Naturalist, teacher in the D.C. area, and author of books including City of Trees
  • Dr. Kevin T. Smith: Supervisory Plant Physiologist and USDA Forest Service
  • Guy Sternberg: Certified Arborist, landscape architect, author, and owner of Starhill Forest Arboretum
  • Matthew Foti: President of Matthew R. Foti Landscape and Tree Service, Inc. and featured arborist from WBGH’s “This Old House”
